Table Linen FAQs
Everything you need to know about our table linen collection
A table linen set brings together pieces designed to match, usually a table runner, placemats, napkins and coasters. Our table linen collections, such as Malabar, include all four in one palette, so you can buy the full set or one piece at a time.
For a 6-seater table, you need one table runner, six placemats, six napkins and six coasters. Most of our placemats, napkins and coasters are available in sets of 6, so one set of each and a runner dresses the whole table. Set sizes vary by design.
Choose a runner about 30 cm longer than your table, for a 15 cm drop at each end, and roughly a third of the table's width. Most 6-seater tables are 150 to 180 cm long, so runners such as our 12" x 72" (30 cm x 183 cm) suit them well. Sizes vary by design and are listed on each product page.
Yes. A runner that stops about 15 cm short of each end gives a clean, modern look, while one that hangs over the edges feels more traditional. Both are correct, so choose the look that suits your room.
Yes. On a centre table, a runner close to the table's length or slightly shorter looks neatest. Most of our runners are sized for dining tables, and selected designs also work on consoles, mantels and across the foot of a bed, so measure your furniture before ordering.
Yes. Lay the runner down the centre of the table and set a placemat at each seat. On a narrow table, let the placemats overlap the edge of the runner slightly so every setting has room.
A standard rectangular table mat measures around 12" x 18" (30 cm x 45 cm), enough for a dinner plate, cutlery and a glass. Our placemats come in 12" x 18" and 11" x 21", depending on the design.
Our placemats come in sets of 2, 4 or 6, so you can match the set to the number of seats at your table.
Our coasters measure 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm), which fits most glasses, cups and mugs. They come in sets of 4 or 6.
Cloth dinner napkins usually measure between 18" and 22" square. Our dinner napkins are a generous 19.5" x 19.5" (49.5 cm x 49.5 cm) and come in sets of 4 or 6.
Dinner napkins are large enough to cover the lap during a full meal. Cocktail napkins are much smaller and are meant for drinks and small bites. We offer both, so you can dress the dinner table and the bar to match.
Linen and linen blends are among the best fabrics for table linen. They are strong and absorbent, drape well and soften with every use. We use premium linen blends across our table linen, finished with embroidery or woven detail.
Luxury table linen is defined by its base fabric, the craft in its detailing and the care in its finishing. Every Casa Dvipa collection is made in India and starts with a place, such as the Malabar coast, so each piece on the table shares one story and palette.
Our table runners are made from a refined linen blend and finished with embroidery or woven detail, depending on the design, adding texture down the centre of the table.
Our placemats are cloth table mats woven from a linen blend, with a thread mix that gives each one depth and texture. They protect your table while adding a soft, natural finish.
Our coasters are woven from a blended linen fabric, with embroidery covering the whole surface for a rich, textured finish that protects your table from rings and spills.
Our cloth napkins are made from a soft blended fabric that is absorbent and gentle to the touch. Each design is made to match the runners, placemats and coasters in its collection.
Colours may look slightly different on your screen, depending on its settings. Small variations in size and finish are part of each piece's character and are not defects.
Care varies by piece, so always follow the instructions on the product page. Our runners and placemats are dry clean only, and our coasters can be hand washed with a mild detergent. Never use bleach on any piece.
Our table runners are dry clean only, which protects the weave and the embroidery. Blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth, then take the runner to a dry cleaner. Roll it rather than folding it for storage, to avoid creases.
Our placemats are dry clean only, which keeps the linen blend and its texture looking their best. Blot spills as soon as they happen, and send the mats to a dry cleaner when they need a full clean.
Hand wash our coasters in cool water with a mild detergent and no bleach. Press out the water gently, dry them flat, and never iron directly on the embroidery.
Follow the care instructions on each napkin's product page. Treat stains straight away, avoid bleach, and never iron directly on any embroidery.
Blot the stain straight away and do not rub it. For dry-clean-only pieces, take them to a dry cleaner quickly and point out the stain. For hand-washable pieces, rinse the stain from the back with cold water first.
Never iron directly on embroidery. Press washable pieces on the reverse at a low heat, and leave pressing of dry-clean-only pieces to your dry cleaner.
No. Bleach weakens linen fibres and fades colour and embroidery, so avoid it on all Casa Dvipa table linen.
Table linen is the fabric used to dress and protect a dining table, including tablecloths, table runners, placemats, napkins and coasters. The name comes from linen, the fabric traditionally used, though today it is also made from linen blends and other fabrics. At Casa Dvipa, our table linen includes runners, placemats, napkins and coasters designed as coordinated collections.
Luxury table linen stands out in five ways: a quality base fabric such as linen or a linen blend, detailed craft such as embroidery or weaving, careful finishing at the edges, coordinated design across every piece, and durability that improves with use. Every Casa Dvipa collection is made in India with these qualities in mind.
In homes and hotels, linen is usually grouped into four types: bed linen, bath linen, table linen and kitchen linen. Table linen covers the pieces used at the dining table, such as runners, placemats, napkins and coasters, which is the range our table linen collections cover.
Casa Dvipa does not rent table linen. For weddings, events and hotels, our Trade Program offers bulk orders with trade pricing, and our Bespoke Manufacturing service can create custom designs, so you own pieces you can use again.
A table runner is a long, narrow strip of fabric laid down the centre of a table. It adds colour and texture, protects the surface under serving dishes and centrepieces, and anchors the table's decor. Runners also work on consoles, sideboards and coffee tables.
Measure your table first. A runner should be about 30 cm longer than the table for a 15 cm drop at each end, or just shorter for a modern look, and roughly a third of the table's width. Then choose a colour and texture that suit your crockery. Runners such as our 12" x 72" suit most 6-seater dining tables.
On a coffee table, a runner should be about the length of the table or slightly shorter, so it doesn't hang where people sit. Anchor it with a tray, books or a vase. Measure your table first, as most of our runners are sized for dining tables and consoles.
In the living room, a runner works best on a console, sideboard or coffee table, where it adds texture under lamps, vases and trays. Choose a colour that echoes your cushions so the room feels connected. Many of our collections, such as Malabar, include cushions and table linen in the same palette.
For a table that seats eight or more, use a runner close to the table's length, or lay two runners end to end with a centrepiece over the join. You can also lay shorter runners across the table's width, one between each pair of facing seats.
Choose runners in warm, earthy tones such as olive, ochre, rust or beige, with texture from embroidery or a woven finish. Our Malabar collection's olive, beige and green palette suits the festive season and pairs beautifully with diyas, candles and brass.
Lay the runner across the centre so it hangs evenly on both sides, or cross two runners at right angles for a fuller look. A runner about 30 cm longer than the table's diameter gives a neat drop at each end.
Placemats, also called table mats, mark each person's place at the table and protect the surface from heat, spills and scratches. They also add colour and texture, and are an easy way to dress a table without a full tablecloth.
Start with size: a standard table mat is around 12" x 18", enough for a plate, cutlery and a glass, with space between settings. Then choose a material that suits how you dine, such as a linen blend for a softer, more elegant table, and match the colour to your runner and napkins. Our placemats come in 12" x 18" and 11" x 21", in sets of 2, 4 or 6 depending on the design.
